Here’s every Newcastle restaurant which needs to be on your 2024 bucket list

Looking back on the academic year, I think a lot of us realise most of our social activities have been alcohol-fuelled, bar the odd “reconnecting with nature” trip to the beach. So, with the year coming to a close scarily soon, you might want to enjoy some quality time with your friends over food rather than alcohol (or both). If you “live to eat” listen up here is a snapshot of the finest food spots Newcastle has to offer. 

Aidan’s Kitchen

Starting off with brunch, the most important meal of the day (I don’t make the rules). You can’t beat a hanxiety-fueled debrief with a side of cheesy hash browns and pancakes at The Dispensary. With their fun science theme and building your own full English, it’s a no-brainer. Aidan’s Kitchen in Sandyford is a must-visit with a menu to keep everyone happy.

Yet another classic (and very popular) option, just be prepared to queue and keep a lookout for the Jesmond rahs in their natural habitat- iced oat vanilla latte and avo toast anyone?  

Supernatural

For lunch or dinner, Supernatural is a personal favourite with its cosy interior, massive menu, and insane food- you wouldn’t guess it was fully vegan and caters to lots of dietary requirements.

Olive & Bean

For a lighter lunch (and not-so-light cake selection) Olive & Bean is your go-to spot right in the centre. There’s a variety of options such as an open sandwich and toasties to fuel you ready to take on Northumberland Street Primark. 

Francesca’s

Francescas in Jesmond is famous amongst the indecisive for its half pasta/half pizza option and authentic Italian interior (there’s a queue for good reason). Definitely a spot to take the parents when visiting the Toon.

Scream for Pizza and Pizza Globe

If you’re feeling adventurous, Scream for Pizza in Sandyford has a huge variety of options, from their signature “Absolutely Crabulous” crab pizza to Vegan “Shuffle Truffle” pizza. And if you can’t decide whether to get a side of chips with your pizza, look no further than Pizza Globe for chips ON pizza – thank me later.

Zucchini

For all the pasta lovers, Zucchini pasta bar, an industrial-style restaurant in the city centre, offers fresh hand-rolled pasta dishes for an upgraded version of your favourite pesto pasta struggle meal.  

Grainger Market

And for all the girlbosses on the go, Grainger Market is perfect for speedy scran. Whether you’re craving mac and cheese Redheads is the place to go, for bagels head to King Baby Bagels, if you’re craving Korean-loaded fries try Bao Down, or if bahji wraps take your fancy, Snackwallah have got you covered.
